Bristol Bus driver "rammed cyclist" - Jailed for 17months.

A bus driver who knocked a cyclist off his bike in Bristol using his bus "as a weapon" has been jailed for 17 months. Gavin Hill, 29, from Frome in Somerset, previously pleaded guilty at Bristol Crown Court to dangerous driving and causing grievous bodily harm. The court was told Hill deliberately knocked Phillip Mead down after the pair had an altercation. Mr Mead suffered a broken leg. Sentencing Hill, Judge Mark Horton said the collision "was not an accident".

Gerald Creed, managing director of Bugler Coaches, said Hill had been sacked by the company on the day the incident happened. He added that the firm's sympathies lay with Mr Mead.

Paul Nero

EXETER FM Boss- verbal attack on cyclists.

Paul Nero - boss at Exeter FM, has an article in th Express and Echo slating cyclists using the Topsham road, and other roads around Exeter.

He claims that as a "good citizen" he has refrained from knocking down or blasting his horn at cyclists who don't use the cycletrack adjacent to the main ountess Weir to Topsham road.
The Clarkson style rant then goes on to crticise the £3m spent on the routes around Exeter, saying it's money the country can "ill afford", and that cyclists are ignorant and stupid not use them. The 20 mph speed limit on the Topsham Road also comes in for a broadside, delaying him in an important decision making process (?), and I'm sure with his tongue in his cheek, he suggest the additional fumes caused as he has to slow down for cyclists, will contribute to global warminmg and wipe out Lympstone!

Barcalys Bike Hire in London
Record "Boris Bike" useage at Christmas.

Christmas Day 2011 saw record simultaneous usage of London’s Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme bikes, according to a data analyst and blogger from University College London (UCL) who has been crunching the numbers on the scheme since it began in July 2010.
That’s a sharp contrast to the low usage levels seen 12 months earlier, when cold weather and snow combined to keep all but the most hardy from using the scheme.

Plym Valley Cycleway

Plymbridge Woods - cycle hub on hold.

The proposed new cycle cafe and hub at Plymbridge Woods is on hold. There was an oversight on the planning application which had not noticed that a restrictive covenant was in place for the land. The planning application has been withdrawn.

John Longworth-Krafft, Assistant Director of Operations for the NationalTrust said “ We are very aware that this will be a real disappointment to the many people and organisations that support our plans, and want to stress to these supporters that we are not abandoning this project. We are also fully aware of concerns expressed by various local residents and users of the woods: The withdrawal of the application in order to deal with the restrictive covenant will also enable us to discuss these concerns with everyone and address them where necessary in the revised scheme”.

Barclays Cycle Hire Scheme.
