Torbay's second family ride successful despite cold wet May!.

Near Bellever - braving the rain!

Another poor weather forcast came to full fruition, but did not deter a crowd of youngsters and parents who met up at Bellever car park on 26th May. The group with children as young as 4 on trailers set off on a cold wet morning, and traversed the moorlnad tracks past Laughter Tor (!)
There were some sunny glimpses to brighten the majestic views.
The ride ended up for a picnic lunch at Postbridge, sheltering from rain at the Dartmoor National Park Info. centre, before a damp and cold descent back to Bellever. <<CLICK HERE>> for the pictures.

CTC is to introduce a low cost membership package for occasional cyclists or those keen to try cycling, with immediate effect. The scheme will offer new cyclists access to CTC local groups, CTC events and the 'Cyclists Welcome' handbook at member prices, the organisation’s bi-monthly magazine Cycle and all the discounts that full members currently enjoy, at 50 per cent of the standard membership fee. Introductory members will be able to upgrade to full membership either during or at the end of their first year. The aim of the initiative is to give cycle users a low cost introduction to CTC, its groups and events and to cycle campaigning.

Family cycle rides
Heading through the lanes to Lustleigh

Torbay's Family Ride successful.

The weather forcast was poor, but 3 families, the Preslands, Brodies, and Canns' all met up for a ride to Bovey Tracey for drinks and cakes, and then on to Lustleigh.
It rained on the return run down the old railway track into Bovey Tracey, but not enough to dampen spirits.

The next family cycle ride starts from the
Bellever Car park (GR 656771) on Sunday 26th May at 10.30
A 10 mile off road circuit is planned, with the option to do a few more miles on-road if required.

Mike Allen ahead in the group
Mike Allen leading back from Tedburn.
Twenty Three riders complete the 50 in 4.

Fifty miles in Four hours was the challenge on 7th April, easy enough on the flat, but Geoff Sharpe (organiser) decided to put a few extra lumps in.
After a gentle run up the Teign Valley it was over the hills from Dunsford to Chriton Bishop and Yeoford, and fighting a strong Easterly wind back to Longdown.

The Cann family - doing the end to end this summer
Cann Family get ready for LEJOG - and aim to break records.
Family set for record breaking End-to-End - Cann they do it?

The Cann family from Cheriton Bishop are getting ready to ride the End to End this Summer.
The family's youngest member Bow-Jango, suffers from Cystic Fibrosis, but he doesn't let this stop him cycling with the rest of the family.
The ride will be sponsored for CF, and if they suceed Bow-Jango will probably go into the Guinness Book of Records as the youngest person to cycle the route.
